Saturday, April
7th, 7pm:
Uncle Bobb, at
The Club, 955 Yosemite, Pacifica, CA
Back in the Old Days, before the Dawn of Time, I used to play guitar
with maestro Rick Cittar's band, Random
Men. Then the earth cooled, the dinosaurs died, and Time wound
on down the road. Rick's new band is called Uncle
Bobb - it features Rick's patented blend of throbbing, uber-inflated
testosterone-fueled hard rock and passionate yet sophisticated vocal
arrangements. It's my privilege to be sitting in on bass for this
showcase, which also happens to be the debut for Uncle Bobb's new
singer, Siri !
Saturday, April
21st, 8:30PM:
Avalon Rising at
The Bistro, 1001 B St.,
Hayward. (510) 886-8525
Just for the sake of variety, Avalon Rising has been on a sort of
break, and has not played our usual 1st-quarter venues like The
Starry Plough, The Black Rose, Pantheacon, and of course, perhaps
our very favorite of all: The Bistro. Featuring a delicious assortment
of finely crafted ales and beers, as well as snacks, coffee, and
wine, The Bistro has traditionally been one of the places where
we sound best.

Kimo's is
described as having been "a neighborhood staple for decades.
A placid Hawaiian vibe pervades the downstairs area, which houses
a jukebox, big-screen TV and large glass windows for scoping out
the bustling sidewalk traffic. At night, a club atmosphere overtakes
the upstairs area, with a variety of live music--everything from
punk and goth to country and cabaret."
Uncle Bobb
goes on at midnight, or 12:30 (but who's counting?), ushering in
Easter Sunday. Also appearing that evening will be Resistant Me,

The Girl Who Touched the Stars
- a musical play performed by The
Starlight Circle Players This
talented group of actors and musicians will present a Celtic-inspired
musical play July 22 and 23 at the Berkeley Fellowship of Unitarian
Universalists hall, 1924 Cedar Street (at Bonita), 510-841-4824.
Based
on English legend, "The Girl Who Touched the Stars"
follows a child's journey through a magical wood to the edge of
the sea where she climbs to the sky to grab a star.
The
curtain rises on this adaptation by playwright Lezlie A. Kinyon
at 8 p.m. on Saturday, July 22 (with doors open at 7 p.m.). A Sunday
matinee begins at 4 p.m. (doors open at 3 p.m.) July 23. Donations
of $5 to $20 are requested (no credit cards, please). Desserts and
other refreshments will be available before the show.
"`The
Girl Who Touched the Stars' is a magical journey with deep roots
in English legendry and tradition, enriched by a robust mix of contemporary
Celtic, blues and folk music," said playwright Kinyon.
"Although this is not a child's play per se, children accompanied
adults are more than welcome. People of all ages will find something
of value in this production."

music, poetry, drumming, dance, performance art, and a production
of William Shakespeare's Midsummer Night's Dream!
Share
traditional food and drink under the trees with other magical people.
And the admission?. . . just a ready smile and a child's wonder!

Review: as it turned out, this was a great gig.
The Rose has changed hands, and names: it's now
called The Black Rose. New owner, Irish native Will
Roll, is friendly, knowledgeable, and generous.
He's spared no expense to put in a top-notch new
sound system - good news for us musicians that are
used to humping in a ton of gear. Santa Rosans:
check it out - it's a great place for dinner and
a pint.
